With the ever increasing competition in the truck market, the 2007 model year Silverado and Sierra trucks were the first major change for GM since 1999. These trucks are a total redesign from the wheels up. All new body, suspensions systems, transmission changes, and upgraded engine technology give this truck a new life in the truck market.

In this class we look at the 07-10 1500 “GMT-900” as a number of changes have occurred in the 2011 model. We will look at the systems and how the operate and issues when they fail we will also look at the problem issues related to this truck.

This is the first part of a two part course in this first class we will look at mechanical systems and there faults.

GM introduced the Pontiac Vibe in 2002 as a 2003 model. The Vibe is a sporty Cross Over style vehicle aimed at the younger market. The Pontiac Vibe is a joint venture between G.M. and Toyota. The Vibe is mechanically a Toyota Matrix with different sheet metal. Both vehicles were built on the same assembly line until 2010 when the plant was closed.  This course will look at the Variable Valve Timing, Variable Valve lift, Electronic Throttle Control, Ignition System, as well as other Computer Controlled Systems used on the Pontiac Vibe.

General Motors introduced a new family of competitive inline 6 cylinder engines for their ’02 SUV’s.  These 6 cylinder engines were downsized to 5 and 4 cylinders for use in their ‘04 Colorado and Canyon trucks.  These 4, 5, and 6 cylinder engines share some of the same components and operational characteristics as well as new service features.  Some of the unique service features will be taught in class. General Motors introduced a new era of common Global electrical design called Electrical Architecture “A”. It is found on numerous vehicles including the new GM pickups.

General Motors will begin using a worldwide format for this service information. One common world wide schematic format will be used. Functional Diagnostic changes to flow charts and the wide use of GMLAN will provide challenges for the technicians.
