Every facet of Automotive service is changing, and vehicle air conditioning systems are not an exception. This class will feature the HFO R1234yf Refrigerant updates and its limitations. We will discuss the new SAE standard components, equipment, leak detection and safety. TSBs and A/C fault problems.
This class will feature the operations of today’s GDI systems. Most manufactures are offering a GDI engine in their car & truck lines. The class will detail safety, operations and diagnostics for these fuel delivery systems. It will include mechanical, electronic testing INCLUDING Labscope changes, and common fixes along with Tech Tips.
The class will be led through the design and operation of the modern Evaporative Emissions system. Recent system changes and additions will be covered. System operation and OBDII monitors will be discussed in detail. System testing will be stressed as will the testing of individual components. The use of diagnostic tools such as smoke machines and scanners are explained. Service bay tests and scan tool actuation modes will be thoroughly discussed. Finally, common faults, TSBs diagnostic tips and aids are shared.
Flashing is a term commonly used to describe the reprogramming of Electronic Control Modules (ECUs) on OBDII vehicles. These vehicles use modules (ECUs) that are electronically reprogrammable. This allows the manufacturer to make changes to the programming on a vehicle without replacing the module. When an update is required the new “Flash” files are retrieved from the vehicle manufacturer and loaded into the ECU. Prior to the implementation of the J2534 Standard this was done using the factory scan tool. In 2004 a Federal mandate required manufacturers of OBDII compliant vehicles to allow reprogramming of emissions related modules with a generic Pass Thru device. This made reprogramming available to the aftermarket at a reasonable cost. The goal of the mandate was to allow vehicle owners to service their vehicles outside the dealer network while still maintaining emissions compliance. Although the mandate is for emissions compliance some manufacturers make non-emissions flashes available. Having the ability to flash/reprogram modules on these vehicles can increase shop productivity and profit. We will also demonstrate the Flash/Reprogramming procedure on 3 popular manufacturers.
Welcome to our New A/C class. We all have experienced both mechanical and Electronic changes over the past few years and today. This course will include both mechanical features of todays A/C systems such as “Piggyback” systems, Variable Orifice, and Pollen Filters.
It will cover detailed operations of the R1234yf systems. Also will feature many TSBs, Tech Tips, and servicing todays’ new A/C systems.
