OBD II engine management systems are required to monitor evaporative (Evap) Emissions. These systems are utilized in all 1995 and newer OBD II vehicles. OBD II mandates that the PCM  not only monitors the Evap system, but also performs self test diagnostics which in some models have an air pump to pressurize the entire system including the fuel tank.

The student will be able to diagnose and repair these systems upon completion of this course.

As Networking between the vehicles computers such as ABS, A/C, Transmission and Engine Management is the standard way of Communicating.  The technician should have a good working knowledge of Diode operations, microprocessor operations and various ways of data transmission.

The Principles of electronics is the foundation to correctly diagnosing and repairing today’s high tech vehicles. With all manufactures going to Body Computer Systems to Control all Electrical functions on vehicles along with sharing of sensor data. With complicated network systems between the vehicle computers, the principles of electronics are now even more important. Most vehicle electrical repair is pinpointed by the use of a DVOM or Labscope and interpreting schematics.

Students can bring their own DVOM’s and Labscopes.
